Lindsay J. Blouin
Lindsay J. Blouin, a graduate of the LSU Law Center and member of the Louisiana Bar Association, is a well-respected criminal defense attorney and former President of the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She has committed her career to defending clients facing deprivation of liberty at the pre-trial, trial, and appellate stage.
Immediately prior to joining the firm, Blouin served as the Deputy Chief Public Defender for East Baton Rouge Parish for more than half a decade supervising attorneys in the legal representation of indigent persons and working with state and local governmental stakeholders to advance the legal system in Louisiana. In that work, Blouin became a passionate advocate at the district court and legislative levels for individuals facing extended pre-trial detention due to unaffordable monetary bail and statutory barriers to release.
In addition to her governmental policy experience, Blouin has served as counsel in over a thousand cases ranging from property crimes to felony drug conspiracy to first degree murder. Blouin’s special litigation practice led to her representation in the first Miller sentencing hearing in East Baton Rouge Parish after the United States Supreme Court ruled in Miller v. Alabama that juveniles convicted of homicide are entitled to specialized sentencing to determine eligibility for parole.
In 2015, she was part of the team of attorneys who represented Henry Montgomery before the United States Supreme Court in Montgomery v. Louisiana, which held that persons sent to prison as children are entitled to retroactive relief under Miller v. Alabama. Blouin, later as lead counsel, represented Mr. Montgomery in 2016 before the 19th Judicial District Court for resentencing. After putting on more than 50 years of mitigation and custodial evidence, Blouin successfully secured a new sentence of parole eligibility for her client. As a result of Montgomery v. Louisiana, more than 1,000 men and women around the country who were sent to prison as children have become eligible for parole and possible release.
Outside of her work in the courtroom, Blouin serves as a Moot Court and Trial Advocacy Programs Coach for the Louisiana State University Law Center. Over the past decade she has worked with numerous law students in their second and third year of law school to build fundamental evidentiary and litigation skills to the benefit of their future clients and the practice of law.
